Healthcare Disparities and COVID-19: Surgical Perspective Panel

Mayo Clinic experts from the Otolaryngology, Gynecology, Nephrology, and Anesthesiology specialties discuss healthcare disparities in their respective fields and how it relates to COVID-19. The panel members discuss the health disparities before COVID-19 as well as what they are seeing in the middle of the pandemic.

Target Audience

Healthcare workers of all specialties who are being impacted by COVID-19, including physicians, research scientists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, and anyone with a particular interest in prevention, treatment, and patient care.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, learners should be able to:

  • Describe the disparity in health outcomes from COVID-19 in patients from minority groups.
  • Describe healthcare disparities seen in surgical specialties such as otolaryngology, transplant, and obstetrics/gynecology before COVID-19.
  • Summarize the protocol put together for our institution to protect staff and patients during aerosol generating procedures, such as intubation and endoscopy.
