Mayo Clinic’s 29th Audiology Conference is an online CME course designed for audiologists, audiology students, otorhinolaryngologists, and others with an interest in hearing healthcare, dizziness and balance. The course will focus on innovations in access to, diagnosis, and management of hearing healthcare; tools that assist with best pathways to care, and translational research that incorporates use of technology and electronic health information systems for delivery. Expert faculty will lead this interactive online CME session.
This online course contains content from the 2020 livestreaming Audiology Conference.
Target Audience
This course is designed for audiologists, audiology students, otorhinolaryngologists, and others with an interest in hearing healthcare, dizziness and balance.

Utilization of this Mayo Clinic online (enduring materials) course does not indicate nor guarantee competence or proficiency in the performance of any procedures which may be in this course.
- Identify one consumer-driven hearing healthcare solution.
- List two new bone-conduction solutions for treatment of hearing loss.
- Name one option for hearing/ear protection against cisplatin ototoxicity.
- Identify one tool that can be used for hearing screening/evaluation that does not utilize a booth.

Jamie M. Bogle, Au.D., Ph.D. | Jamie M. Bogle, AuD, PhD, is the Division Chair of Audiology at Mayo Clinic Arizona and an Assistant Professor of Audiology at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science. She earned her Doctorate of Audiology (AuD) and PhD from the University of Colorado at Boulder and was awarded the James and Martha Crawford Endowed Clinical Research Fellowship in Otolaryngology at Mayo Clinic Florida. Her current research interests include improving the diagnostic tools available to better understand inner ear function in typical and disordered patients across the lifespan |
Heather Clark, Ph.D. | Dr. Clark is the Chair of Speech Pathology in the Department of Neurology and Associate Professor in the College of Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. She is board-certified by the Academy of Neurologic Communication Disorders and Sciences and is a Fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Her clinical responsibilities include differential diagnosis of communication and swallowing disorders in adults and children. She serves as co-investigator in several projects examining the nature of speech, language, and swallowing impairment in degenerative neurologic disease. Dr. Clark has served as a topic chair for the ASHA convention, program chair of the Conference on Motor Speech, and chair of the fall conference of the North Carolina Speech Language Hearing Association. |
Katharine Fernandez, Au.D., Ph.D. | Katharine Fernandez, Au.D. & Ph.D., is a clinician/staff scientist at the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD. Dr. Fernandez completed her doctoral work at James Madison University before completing a post-doctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. Her research interests include noise- and drug-induced hearing loss with an emphasis on guiding otoprotection studies. Currently, Dr. Fernandez is developing animal models to appropriately study cisplatin ototoxicity and conducting clinical studies in head and neck cancer patients to explore potential otoprotectants. |
Cynthia A. Hogan, Ph.D. | Cynthia Hogan obtained her Master of Science Degree from Penn State University and her Ph.D. from Syracuse University. She has been working as a clinical audiologist for 35 years since getting her MS. Her work is focused primarily on hearing aids, including conventional hearing aids and bone conduction devices. She came to Mayo Clinic Rochester in 2007 and is currently the directory of the Hearing Aid Program and Chair of the Division of Audiology in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology. |
Devin L. McCaslin, Ph.D. | Devin L. McCaslin, PhD currently serves as the Director of the Vestibular and Balance Laboratory at Mayo Clinic in Rochester and is an Associate Professor in the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. Dr. McCaslin’s major academic, clinical and research interests relate to clinical electrophysiology, vestibular assessment, healthcare economics, and the application of artificial intelligence to manage and treat dizzy patients. |
Gayla L. Poling, Ph.D. | Gayla L. Poling, PhD, is Director of Diagnostic Audiology at Mayo Clinic – Rochester, MN and Vice-Chair of Research in the Department of Otolaryngology. She received her undergraduate and master’s training in Speech and Hearing Science from The Ohio State University and completed her Clinical Fellowship at Henry Ford Hospital. She practiced as a clinical audiologist at Mayo Clinic prior to returning to Ohio State where she earned a PhD in Hearing Science. She completed postdoctoral training focused on translational research at the Medical University of South Carolina and Northwestern University. Her current research interest is on developing diagnostic tools focused on the early detection and prevention of hearing loss due to aging, noise and other environmental factors (ototoxicity). |
Aniket A. Saoji, Ph.D. | Aniket Saoji is the Director of Cochlear Implants at the Mayo Clinic located in Rochester, Minnesota. He got his PhD in Hearing Sciences, from the State University of New York in 2004. He got his Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology from All India Institute of Speech and Hearing in 1999. |
Greta C. Stamper, Au.D., Ph.D. | Greta C. Stamper, AuD, PhD, is a Consultant in the Division of Audiology at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL, where she also serves as Audiology Supervisor and Program Director for the Audiology Externship. She received her undergraduate and graduate clinical audiology training at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, IA; she subsequently completed her AuD externship at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL in 2009. Dr. Stamper obtained her PhD in Audiology from the University of Kansas in 2013. Her current research interests include adult aural rehabilitation and hearing loss prevention. |
David A. Zapala, Ph.D. | David Zapala earned his B.S. from California State University at Fullerton, M.S. from Utah State University, and Ph.D. from the University of Memphis. He is currently a Senior Consultant and Chair of the Audiology Section at the Mayo Clinic in Florida and holds the rank of Associate Professor in the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. |
