Safely Rebooting the Outpatient Practice During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Nita Sharma, M.B.A., FACHE, Instructor in Health Care Systems Engineering and member of the Mayo Clinic Outpatient Practice Subcommittee, shares how she and colleagues at Mayo Clinic in Arizona developed a toolkit to safely reboot the outpatient practice in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Ms. Sharma describes how five multidisciplinary teams were empowered to develop work streams in the areas of patient and visitor screening; proactive procedural testing; environmental safety; staff protection for face-to-face visits; and development of outpatient cohort areas and respiratory illness clinics. Learn how the teams integrated strategies to reboot the outpatient practice and keep patients, staff and communities safe.
