Neuro-Ophthalmology & Glaucoma Symposium

This course will address topics in Glaucoma and Neuro-Ophthalmology including recent advances in diagnosis and treatments for both specialties. We will also discuss areas of overlap between Neuro-Ophthalmology and Glaucoma and discuss ways of differentiating the two entities. Topics will include advances in OCT, ischemic optic neuropathy including new treatments and ongoing studies, new biomarkers for optic neuritis, idiopathic intracranial hypertension, Leber Hereditary Optic Neuropathy, diplopia and anisocoria, masqueraders of glaucoma, new diagnostic and therapeutic tools for glaucoma and neuro-ophthalmology, and a discussion on the management of specific neuro-ophthalmic and glaucoma challenges, including newer surgical techniques.
In association with the Minnesota Academy of Ophthalmology, ophthalmologists are invited to a special reception, dinner and lecture featuring Drs. Steve Newman and Joel Schuman on Friday, April 20, at 6:00 p.m.

Learning Objectives
Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:
- Choose the appropriate type of glaucoma surgery for individual patients
- Identify surgical techniques for the management of co-existent glaucoma and cataract
- Describe the role of imaging and functional testing to manage glaucoma
- Describe non-surgical treatment options for glaucoma treatment
- Review the role of intraocular pressure and perfusion in glaucoma
- Differentiate glaucoma from other forms of optic neuropathy
- Describe the workup and treatment options for nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy and arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy
- Describe recent advances in biomarkers of optic neuritis
- Describe updates on idiopathic intracranial hypertension and the translaminar gradient
- Describe updates on Leber Hereditary Optic Neuropathy
- Describe the differential diagnosis and workup of diplopia and anisocoria
