The Mayo Clinic Sleep Medicine Update course is conducted by Mayo Clinic sleep researchers and clinicians. This course reviews the latest advances in practice and research using case-based scenarios enriched with personal clinical experiences. The course is designed to provide attendees with a comprehensive review of sleep disorders and practical steps to enhance clinical skills and practice.

Target Audience

This course is relevant for sleep medicine specialists including MDs, DOs, nurse practitioners and physician assistants, internists and family medicine specialists, pediatric sleep medicine practitioners and general pediatricians, ENT specialists with interest in sleep apnea, psychiatrists with interest in insomnia, neurologists with interest in sleep associated neurological diagnoses and sleep administrators and practice managers.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Assess recent advancements in sleep apnea therapies, including hypoglossal nerve stimulation, oromyofascial therapy, and oral appliances, to enhance treatment strategies for various patient profiles.
  • Differentiate diagnostic approaches for hypersomnia disorders, including narcolepsy types 1 and 2, and idiopathic hypersomnia, using current best practices to enhance diagnostic accuracy and patient care.
  • Review updated pharmacological and behavioral strategies for managing insomnia, focusing on special populations like psychiatric and pediatric patients, to improve therapeutic outcomes.
  • Examine the link between sleep disorders and comorbid conditions like cardiovascular disease, obesity, and neurological impairments to better understand sleep’s impact on overall health.
  • Identify emerging digital tools and AI applications to enhance the efficiency and quality of patient care in sleep medicine.
