"Controlled Substance Monitoring: Challenges of Ordering/Interpreting Lab Tests"

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:

  • Recognize the clinical utility and limitations of the following urine drug tests used to support pain management/monitoring of controlled substances: 1) Immunoassays (Screening Assays). 2) Mass Spectrometry-based assays (Definitive tests).
  • Define the metabolic profiles of common classes of pain management medications and discuss how to intrepret screening/definitive test results.
