COURSE DESCRIPTION

Within recent years, a handful of antidiabetic agents have received approval from the FDA for improvement of cardiovascular or renal outcomes in type 2 diabetes mellitus.  Notably, several GLP-1 receptor agonists and SGLT2 inhibitors have been approved by the FDA within the last year for these indications. With these most recent updates, a gap may exist in the optimal prescribing of these medications. This presentation will review the literature leading to these and other similar recommendations in order to optimize the benefit of these agents.

At the conclusion of this knowledge-based CE session, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the recent literature examining cardiovascular benefits of GLP-1 receptor agonists and SGLT2 inhibitors.
  • Discuss the body of evidence for renal outcomes with GLP-1 receptor agonists and SGLT2 inhibitors.
  • Recognize situations to implement and optimize these therapies in patient care plans
