COURSE DESCRIPTION

Cardiovascular disease is the most common cause of death in the United States and worldwide. A primary risk factor for developing cardiovascular disease is elevated blood cholesterol levels. Treatment of dyslipidemia is essential for prevention of atherosclerotic cardiovascular events, including stroke and myocardial infarction. Although dyslipidemia is most commonly managed by statin therapy, there are several non-statin medications that should be considered as adjunct therapy when further reduction in LDL-C is necessary. This presentation will describe the role of non-statin therapy in the management of blood cholesterol for prevention of major cardiovascular events.

At the conclusion of this knowledge-based CE session, participants should be able to:

  • Review guideline recommendations for management of blood cholesterol
  • Describe the risks and benefits associated with adjunct non-statin therapy
  • Identify patient-specific characteristics in which PCSK9 inhibitor therapy should be considered
