COURSE DESCRIPTION

Gout is the most common form of inflammatory arthritis, affecting about 9.2 million adults in the US. Despite effective and low cost medications to treat gout, adherence to urate lowering therapies remains poor. In May of 2020, The American College of Rheumatology released new guidelines for management of gout. Since the prior 2012 guidelines were published, several clinical trials have been conducted that provide additional evidence regarding the management of gout. This presentation will review the literature leading to these recommendations.

At the conclusion of this knowledge-based CE session, participants should be able to:

  • Discuss new guideline recommendations for the management of gout
  • Review the literature contributing to the new gout recommendations
  • Recognize patients that would benefit from newer gout therapies based on guideline recommendation
