COURSE DESCRIPTION

Mucorales is a genera of fungi found in decaying vegetation in soil that causes infection in humans. Rates of these infections vary widely between different populations, but is most common in immunocompromised patients and patients with diabetes mellitus. New guidelines for the diagnosis and management of mucormycosis were published in late 2019. During this presentation, we will review these guidelines, assess appropriate application of these guidelines to a patient case, and review key pharmacology pearls of anti-mold therapies.

At the conclusion of this knowledge-based CE session, participants should be able to:

  1. Recall risk factors and clinical presentation of mucormycosis infections
  2. Evaluate a mucormyocosis treatment plan for guideline adherence
  3. Apply anti-mold pharmacology pearls to a patient case
