COURSE DESCRIPTION

Tranexamic acid has been used for a wide variety of indications since its development in 1962 and subsequent FDA approval in 1986. Over the last decade, new data has surfaced illustrating the potential benefits and harms of tranexamic acid in a wide variety of different bleeding indications. The mixed data for varying indications has led to uncertainty on when tranexamic acid is appropriate and its use should be advocated for. This presentation will review some of the major indications tranexamic acid is being evaluated in by highlighting trials that both support or refute its use in said populations.

At the conclusion of this knowledge-based CE session, participants should be able to:

  1. Discuss pharmacological characteristics of tranexamic acid
  2. Compare and contrast primary literature for proposed tranexamic acid indications
  3. Identify pharmacotherapy pearls related to tranexamic acid
