COURSE DESCRIPTION

In December 2020, the FDA authorized Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use, followed only weeks later by emergency authorization for a different COVID-19 vaccine produced by Moderna. The new mRNA vaccine technology, public demand for immunizations, and scale of COVID-19 immunization efforts have presented significant challenges that have been overcome through concentrated efforts from organizations and pharmacy departments.  During this session pharmacy-related COVID-19 immunization challenges and solutions will be discussed, along with challenges we can expect to see in the ever-changing landscape of the COVID-19 pandemic.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of this knowledge-based CE session, participants should be able to:

  • List three differences between COVID-19 immunization efforts and previous mass immunization strategies.
  • Describe challenges in complying with vaccine delivery, storage, and administration processes required by FDA emergency use authorization.
  • Summarize the current state and future directions of COVID-19 mass immunization efforts.
