Joy Allen, A.P.R.N., C.N.P.

Emily Axelson, M.S., CCC-SLP graduated from UW-Eau Claire with a master’s degree in Communication Disorders in 2009.  After graduate school, she worked at Aurora BayCare Medical Center where she was involved in establishing speaking valve and tracheostomy protocols for speech pathology and RT which included competencies, education, and orientation of new staff.  She was also part of the ICU TBI Team which provided early mobilization and early treatment to patients with moderate and severe TBIs. Emily has worked at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN since 2015 and has a special interest and experience working with patients with brain injury, patients with acquired neurologic and cognitive deficits, and patients with tracheostomies addressing both communication and swallowing disorders.

Ashley Bailey, R.N., B.S.N. has her BSN from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She has11 years of nursing experience with 8 years as a preceptor, charge and rapid response nurse in the Medical/Surgical/Transplant ICU at the Mayo Clinic Rochester, MN.  Ashley has been involved with the Unit's Coordinating Council and chair of the Intensive Care Speciality Nursing Practice Committee.

Christopher L. Bosley, BS, AAS, RRt, RRT-NPS, LRT, RCP received his BS in Biology from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, and his AAS-Respiratory Care Practitioner from Mid-State Technical College, Marshfield, WI. He is a Pediatric Respiratory Care Education Specialist with the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine - Respiratory Care., Mayo Clinic-Rochester, MN. He has been a practicing respiratory therapist for the past 21 years, joining Mayo Clinic in spring 2001, spending 15 years on the neonatal/pediatric transport teams. Chris has been an American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) member since 1997, & is a member of the AARC’s Neonatal-Pediatrics, Surface-Air Transport and Education specialty sections. Is also an affiliate member of the American Academy of Pediatrics’ (AAP) - Section on Transport Medicine (SOTM). Chris is on the Board of Directors for the American Lung Association’s MN-Camp Superkids, has served on the Board of Directors for the Minnesota Society for Respiratory Care (MSRC), and is the current Vice President. He also serves as a pediatric clinical instructor, lecturer & adjunct faculty member for the Mayo School of Health Sciences/University of Minnesota.

Jillene A. Chitulangoma, P.T., D.P.T. has worked at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN as a physical therapist since May 2010 working across all areas of the acute care practice including the majority of the adult ICUs. She graduated from St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN with a Bachelor Degree in Biology in 1998 and from the Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences with a Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree in 2007. Jillene has presented on topics of early mobility/activity/rehab raising awareness of the importance of early mobility/activity on recovery from critical illness.  She is actively involved in continuous education of Mayo ICU hospital staff regarding importance of early mobility/activity. Jillene is a Mayo Silver quality fellow, receiving Gold status on and recipient of the Mayo Clinic Excellence Through Teamwork Award for her quality improvement project involvement in early mobility and activity in the ICU. Jillene is an active member of the Mayo Rochester Critical Care Education Subcommittee and Mayo MICU leadership committee. Jillene is the current ICU clinical lead physical therapist for Mayo Rochester.

Heather Clark, Ph.D. is a Chair of Speech Pathology in the Department of Neurology and Associate Professor in the College of Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. She is board-certified by the Academy of Neurologic Communication Disorders and Sciences and is a Fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Her clinical responsibilities include differential diagnosis of communication and swallowing disorders in adults and children. She serves as co-investigator in several projects examining the nature of speech, language, and swallowing impairment in degenerative neurologic disease.  Dr. Clark has served as a topic chair for the ASHA convention, program chair of the Conference on Motor Speech, and chair of the fall conference of the North Carolina Speech Language Hearing Association.

Megan Donovan, OTR/L is an OT in pediatrics working on the acute care floor, PICU, NICU, CICU and inpatient rehabilitation at Mayo Clnic-St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN since 2016. She graduated from the University of Minnesota - Rochester in 2016

Marcia Eick, A.P.R.N., C.N.P., ACHPN is an A.P.R.N. in the Center for Palliative Medicine Hospital Consulting Service, Mayo Clinic Rochester, MN.  She received her BSN from Midland Lutheran College, Fremont, NE, and her MSN from Drake University, Des Moines, IA.  Prior to transferring toe the Center for Palliative Medicine, she worked in CV Surgery at Mayo Clinic Rochester, MN.

Melissa P. Hake, P.T., D.Sc.P.T. is an Assistant Professor of Physical Therapy in the Mayo Clinic Program in Physical Therapy, Rochester, MN. She graduated from Mayo Clinic Physical Therapy Program in 2001 and earned a Doctor of Science in Physical Therapy degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine in 2012. She has published in the Journal of Physical Therapy Education, the Journal of Acute Care Physical Therapy, the Journal of Allied Health, and Oncology Rehabilitation.  Dr. Hake is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association, and serves on taskforces within the Academy of Acute Care to advance acute care physical therapy education. She is also a member of the Academy for Oncologic Physical Therapy and Academy of Physical Therapy Education.

Janelle Hatlevig, O.T., B.C.P.R. is board certified in Physical Rehabilitation and has been on staff at Mayo Clinic with PMR for over 12 years with over 16 years of experience as an occupational therapist.  In that time, Janelle has served in the role of Lead occupational therapist in the Neuro (brain) Program for over 3 years and is currently the Lead OT in the Dysphagia Practice as well as the Coordinator for the Dysphagia Fellowship Program.  This newly accredited Dysphagia Fellowship Program is the first and only one of its kind in the United States supported by The American Occupational Therapy Association.  Janelle’s areas of specialty include adult dysphagia, intensive care unit, and acute care practice in Neuro patients.

Andrea Y. Lehnertz, A.P.R.N., C.N.S., M.S.N. is a professional Clinical Nurse Specialist who supports the Medical/Surgical/Transplant ICU and the Enhanced Critical Care ICU.  Andrea has been employed at Mayo Clinic Rochester, MN for 20 years and is a current member of the Medical Emergency Response Subcommittee, Sedation Committee & Mortality Review committee.  Andrea’s specific interests are in Rapid Response Team & Code Blue response, early mobility and acute respiratory distress syndrome in the critically ill.

Shannon L. Piche, Pharm.D., R.Ph. received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy and completed her general practice and critical care residency training at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. She holds board certification in Pharmacotherapy from the Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties. She is currently working as a Critical Care and Transplant Clinical Pharmacist in the Department of Pharmacy at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota with clinical interests in pulmonary complications of bone marrow transplant and management of post intensive care syndrome.        

Gina Rohlik, A.P.R.N., C.N.S., D.N.P. is a Clinic Nurse Specialist in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) in the Mayo Clinic Children's Center, Rochester, MN.  She started her career in the PICU as a clinical nurse and transport nurse.  In addition she has practriced as a pediatric nurse practitioner with general pediatric surgery and pediatric otolaryngology.

Devin Roloff, Senior Health Systems Engineer, Management Engineering & Consulting is in the Department of Management Engineering & Consulting (ME&C) at Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, Arizona.  He partners with clients to bring an objective consultative perspective to projects by aligning operations with the needs of the patient and organizational priorities. Most recently, Devin worked on Project Gazelle focusing on the successful activation of Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City (SSMC), a 645-bed health care facility in Abu Dhabi. Prior to joining Project Gazelle, Devin served in a strategic partnership with the Critical Care Independent Multidisciplinary Program (IMP), working on projects that increased the value of care provided by improving quality and reducing cost through efficiency and standardization of the Critical Care practice. A few highlights are Embedded Early Mobility and Activity in a Mixed Medical/Surgical ICU, Critical Care IMP Master Plan, Automated External Defibrillator Data Extraction, and Physiologic Surveillance Monitoring in General Care.  He served as a member of the Critical Care Clinical Practice Committee, Medical Emergency Response Subcommittee, and Critical Care Quality Subcommittee.

Emily Bodensteiner Schmitt, M.O.T., OTR/L has worked as an occupational therapist at Mayo Clinic Rochester, MN since September 2016.  She graduated from Lawrence University with a Bachelor of Music Degree in 2012 and from University of Minnesota Rochester with a Master of Occupational Therapy degree in 2016. She is currently enrolled in University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences’s Doctorate of Education program to hone her skills as an instructor and clinical educator. Emily is the current ICU clinical lead occupational therapist for Mayo Clinic Rochester, MN. She has been integrally involved with the development of the embedded ICU model at Mayo Clinic since 2016. She has received designation of Gold Quality Fellow within Mayo’s Quality Academy. Emily is an active member of the 10-3/4 ICU leadership committee and the Critical Care IMP Education Subcommittee. Additionally, she serves as the main occupational therapist within the Mayo ICU Recovery Program including the Post-ICU Clinic.

Darcie Simpson, P.T., D.P.T., P.C.S. has been practicing as a pediatric physical therapist at Mayo Clinic Rochester, MN for 14 years with a focus in acute care including the PICU, Pediatric CICU, and NICU.  She received a Masters in Physical Therapy from Mayo School of Health Sciences in 2003 and a Doctor of Physical Therapy from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions in 2015.   She is an APTA Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Pediatric Physical Therapy and an APTA Credentialed Clinical Instructor.
