Dany Nobus, Ph.D.

Introduction

Born in Belgium, Dany Nobus studied Clinical Psychology at Ghent University (1983-1988) and later worked as a teaching and research assistant, and as a researcher in the Department of Psychoanalysis and Clinical Consulting. Following the completion of his PhD in 1996, he joined the then Department of Human Sciences at Brunel University London as a Lecturer in Psychology. He was promoted to Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in 2001, and to a personal Chair in Psychoanalytic Psychology in 2006. At the end of 2006, he was appointed Dean of the newly established School of Social Sciences, which offered undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Anthropology, Economics, Finance and Accounting, History, Media and Communication Studies, Politics, Psychology and Sociology. Under his leadership, Brunel’s School of Social Sciences became the largest and most successful School in the University. After 5 years of Deanship, he was promoted in January 2012 to the post of Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Vice-Rector) for Strategy, Development and External Relations.  He has published six books and authored over 100 articles, book chapters and reports in various academic and professional journals.  He has presented more than 200 papers at workshops and conferences all around the world.

In recognition of his work on the history of psychoanalysis, Dany Nobus was recently appointed Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Freud Museum London.
