Introduction

Dr. Sampson attended Dalhousie University with honors in psychiatry.  Dr. Sampson attended Medical School and did her internship and residency at McGill University in Montreal, Canada.  She did a fellowship at Harvard University (Brigham and Women’s Hospital and West Roxbury VA Hospital for Medical Psychiatry/Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry.  She also did a fellowship at Harvard University (Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center for Neuropsychiatry).   Dr. Sampson is board certified in Behavioral Neurology and Neuro Psychiatry.  She is active in TMS, ECT, DBS, and research. 

Dr. Machulda is an Associate Professor of Psychology at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and a neuropsychologist in the Division of Neurocognitive Disorders at Mayo Clinic, Rochester.  She completed her doctoral training at the Finch University of Health Sciences/The Chicago Medical School, her predoctoral internship at the West Virginia University School of Medicine, and her postdoctoral fellowship at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine. Her professional activities include clinical responsibilities, teaching/supervision, serving as the Adult Neuropsychology Fellowship Speciality Director, and collaborating with colleagues on several NIH funded research projects that examine aging/dementia as well neurodegenerative speech and language disorders

Learning Objectives

  1. Participants will be able to administer the MoCA reliably and validly

  2. Participants will be able to identify the brain regions assessed with different subtests of the MoCA

  3. Participants will be able to discuss the implications of poor test performance
