Introduction

Glenda Wrenn, MD, MSHP, FAPA is the Director of the Kennedy-Satcher Center for Mental Health Equity at the Satcher Health Leadership Institute (SHLI) at Morehouse School of Medicine. Dr. Wrenn provides oversight and leadership to its two Signature Leadership Development Programs: Smart and Secure Children Quality Parent Program and Integrated Care Leadership Program. Dr. Wrenn, an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. She completed her undergraduate education at the United States Military Academy at West Point, earned her medical degree from Jefferson Medical College, and completed psychiatry residency at the University of Pennsylvania where she was Chief Resident. Dr. Wrenn earned a Master of Science in Health Policy Research from the University of Pennsylvania during her tenure as a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar. Dr. Wrenn is committed to fostering resilient outcomes among disadvantaged populations using policy-relevant research approaches, strategic partnerships, and high impact initiatives. She mentors students and residents, and is committed to building collaborations across systems of care, disciplines, and professions to solve complex mental health challenges. Dr. Wrenn has provided clinical leadership to several integrated care demonstration sites and has served in administrative leadership roles including Associate Residency Training Director in the Department of Psychiatry, and Curriculum Lead for the Veteran’s Administration, Women’s Center of Excellence for Specialty Care. Her research activities include projects related to mental health help seeking, culturally centered integrated care, and integration of mental health in diverse settings. Her work has been presented at national and international conferences, and she has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals, and is a sought after public speaker and mental health policy consultant.

Learning Objectives

  1. Discuss examples of systems change implementation to improve psychiatric crisis services and promote application fo the sequential intercept model for criminal justice.
  2. Identify the role of measurement based care in enabling improved mental health systems and population health outcomes.
  3. Recognize examples of strong psychiatric crisis state legislation and their potential impact of service design.
