Sex Trafficking in the ED: Identification, Assessment, Management & Treatment

Introduction
Vickie Ernste, DNP, MSN, RN is a nurse manager of the Emergency Department at Mayo Clinic Hospital in Rochester, MN. Vickie has over 17 years of experience in critical care, emergency medicine, and healthcare systems leadership. While in the ED staff nurse role, Vickie served as a SANE nurse in the ED. In April 2017, Vickie graduated from Chamberlain College of Nursing with her Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP) with an emphasis on healthcare systems leadership. As a DNP student, Vickie's scholarly project included sex trafficking awareness in the ED setting, specifically, provider self-efficacy in the identification, assessment, management, and treatment of sex trafficking victims. Vickie has worked with multidisciplinary healthcare team members, community collaborative partners, and national authors in establishing an algorithm and evidence-based toolkit for staff physicians, APPs, and nurses. Vickie is a member of the Human Trafficking Task Force for Olmsted County. Vickie is active in her state Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) as a director on the state Board of Directors. Vickie has presented locally, regionally, and nationally on sex trafficking.
