TITLE: Becoming a Psychiatrist: Professional Identity Formation in the Community of Psychiatric Practice
Sandy Rackley, MD, MAEdHD is a Consultant in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry at Mayo Clinic. She completed medical school, residency, and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship at Mayo Clinic and a fellowship in Pediatric Psychosomatic Medicine at the National Institute of Mental Health prior to directing the consultation-liaison and emergency department services at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington DC. Since returning to Mayo Clinic, she has served as medical director of Generose 1W, and now her primary clinical role is within pediatric Integrated Behavioral Health. Educationally, she is the program director for the Child & Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship and a member of the admissions committee for the Mayo Clinic School of Medicine – Rochester Campus. She is also a member of the Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Certification committee for the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, co-chairs the Workshops & Symposia subcommittee for the Academy of Psychosomatic Medicine, and a regional representative to the American Association of Directors of Psychiatric Residency Training. She completed her master’s in education at the George Washington University, where her thesis research was in physician professional identity formation.

- Describe Lave and Wegner's concept of legitimate peripheral participation in communities of practice.
