TITLE:  Personalizing Treatment for Alcohol Use Disorders:  From Pharmacogenetics to Pharmacogenomics to Multi-omics

Dr. Victor M. Karpyak, M.D., Ph.D. is a Medical Director of the Intensive Addiction Treatment Program and Director of Mayo Clinic Addiction Services in Rochester, MN. He is a Consultant in the Department of Psychiatry and Psychology and Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. His research interests are focused on discovery of genomic markers associated with alcohol use disorders and pharmacogenomics of treatment response.

Learning Objectives

  1. Identify problems casued by Alcohol Use Disorders (AUD)
  2. Define challenges in AUD treatment selection.
  3. Recognize the role of treatment response biomarker discovery in personalized treatment.
  4. Describe the role of pharmacogenetic, pharmacogenomic and multi-omic approaches as steps towards development of scientific basis for treatment of patients with AUD.
