Introduction

1st Speaker

Dr. Thida Han is a second year Fellow in Medical Psychology at Mayo Clinic, specializing in Adult Clinical Neuropsychology. Dr. Han is originally from Canada, and completed a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Neuroscience from the University of Western Ontario. She received her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Denver, where she focused her training in neuropsychological assessment and rehabilitation psychology. She completed her internship in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. Her research and clinical interests focus on helping individuals and their families understand and cope with the cognitive, behavioral and emotional changes that follow a brain injury or other neurological condition.

 

2nd Speaker

Dr. Allison Holgerson was awarded her Bachelors of Science in Psychology from the University of Florida in 2010. She then completed her Masters of Science in Counseling Psychology at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA in 2012. Dr. Holgerson completed a Predoctoral Psychology Internship at the University of Florida Health Science Center and received her PhD from Virginia Commonwealth University in Counseling Psychology in 2016. Dr. Holgerson’s primary clinical and research interests are focused in the management and treatment of obesity. Her research background includes evaluating interventions for both childhood and adult obesity, binge eating disorder, and the promotion of healthy dietary behaviors and chronic disease prevention at the individual and community level. She is currently extending this background with multidisciplinary research teams focusing on the psychological factors of those seeking obesity treatment and predictors of success following bariatric surgery.

  2. Recongnize food addiction and its impact on obesity and bariatric surgery.
  3. Identify the relationship between adverse childhood experiences and food addiction on bariatric surgery completion and outcomes.
