Behavioral Aspects of Brain Aging and Mild Cognitive Impairment

Yonas Geda


Introduction

Dr Yonas E. Geda is a consultant in the department of Psychiatry and Psychology with joint appointments in the department of Neurology and Health Sciences Research. He is a Professor of Neurology and Psychiatry at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science. He completed residency in Psychiatry and Fellowship in C-L Psychiatry (1996-2000). Subsequently, he was awarded Mayo Foundation Scholar to pursue a fellowship in Behavioral Neurology (2000- 2001). Funded by K01 grant from NIH, he completed a Master’s of science degree training in clinical research (2004-2006). He is a full time faculty member at Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona. Prior to that he served as a full time faculty member from 2001 to 2011 at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He is active in research, education and patient care. He has over 125 peer reviewed publications in major journals in the area of the Neuropsychiatric Aspects of mild cognitive impairment as well as in life style factors (e.g. physical exercise) and old age. He is funded by NIH including a current R01, European Union and the Robert Wood Johnson foundation. He has successfully mentored students, residents, fellows and doctoral thesis candidates from US, Austria, Germany, France and Norway. He has served on the PhD thesis committees of doctoral candidates in US, France and Australia. Dr Geda earned his doctor of medicine degree from Addis Ababa (Haile Selassie) University and completed all his graduate trainings at Mayo Clinic. He is a recipient of numerous awards including a Medal from the City of Marseille (2004), Medal from the city of La Ciotat, France (2015). Dr Geda is one of the 5 Americans who received medal from the deputy prime minister of Czech Republic in the presence of the US ambassador to Czech republic as well as the Czech ambassador to US, for contributing to US and Czech scientific collaboration during the centennial celebration of the Czech republic which was held in Chicago, Illinois on the 28th of September of 2018.
