Dr. Reem Shafi completed her medical training at St. George's University of London, United Kingdom graduating with a Distinction in Clinical Science and Practice. She received a 1st class Bachelor of Science degree with honors in Medical Science and Medical Genetics from the University of London. Dr. Shafi has practiced as a licensed physician in the UK, Australia and USA. She is currently a fourth-year psychiatry Chief resident at Mayo Clinic who is a recipient of APA and AACAP awards. Her research interests include the impact of social media use on adolescents and interventions for disruptive behavior disorders in young children. She has presented about social media at national and international conferences. She has published on social media in The Lancet Psychiatry and is currently an investigator in a clinical trial at Mayo Clinic assessing the effects of social media use on the self-esteem, depressive symptoms and physiological stress response of adolescent inpatients versus healthy controls.

Dr. Matthew Schumann is a second year postdoctoral fellow in Medical Psychology at Mayo Clinic, specializing in clinical health psychology with a focus in pain rehabilitation. He began his career as a research practicum student at the Pain Rehabilitation Center at Mayo Clinic in 2012 during his M.A. studies in clinical psychology at Minnesota State University. He completed his pre-doctoral internship at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System and received his doctorate in clinical psychology at Idaho State University. His primary clinical interests are in delivering and providing education regarding evidence-based approaches for chronic pain management across the lifespan, and identifying psychosocial factors that influence chronic pain outcomes. During his fellowship he has been active in facilitating an opioid education workshop at the simulation center, developing and implementing a 6-week CBT for chronic pain group in primary care, and working within an interdisciplinary team at the Pain Rehabilitation Center.
