Bhanu Kolla, MD

Dr. Bhanu Kolla is Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Psychology with clinical appointments in both the Department of Sleep Medicine and Addiction Psychiatry.  He is the Co-Chair of Education for the Department of Psychiatry and Chair of the Grand Rounds committee. The main focus of his research is examining the intersection of sleep disorders and substance use and he is a nationally-recognized as an expert working at the intersection of Sleep Disorders and Addiction.  He has over 60 peer reviewed publications.  He has a passion for education and mentoring trainees and a keen interest in evidence based medicine.

Learning Objectives
Upon conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

• Describe current treatment strategies for insomnia with a focus on chronic disease management.
• Summarize the evidence examining the efficacy of long-term hypnotic medication use.
• Outline current safety data examining long-term use of hypnotic medication.
• Review current controversies in studies showing associations between hypnotic use and long-term adverse outcomes.
