Brain-Gut Interactions in Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Madhu Grover, MBBS

Dr. Grover is a consultant and Assistant Prof in Departments of Medicine and Physiology/biomedical engineering. His laboratory studies epidemiology and mechanisms of irritable bowel syndrome. Specific interests include the crosstalk between microbiome, microbial mediators and host physiology. He is also engaged in clinical trials for patients with IBS and other functional GI disorders such as gastroparesis and functional dyspepsia. His program is funded by NIH, DoD, AGA foundation grants and industry.

Learning Objectives
Upon conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

• Review the overlay of psychiatric and psychosocial comorbidity in IBS patients and their influence on disease presentation.
• Recognize the influence of central factors on peripheral mechanisms of IBS.
• Describe the therapeutic targeting of psychiatric comorbidities including novel microbiota-based strategies.
