Speaker 1:
Cameron Rimsa, MD is the Addiction Psychiatry Fellow at Mayo Clinic Rochester.  As a Rochester native, he has returned to his hometown after completing undergraduate at Wheaton College (IL), medical school at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, and General Adult Psychiatry Residency at Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services in Grand Rapids, MI, where he served as Chief Resident as a PGY4.  His clinical interests include the overlap of substance use disorders and severe/persistent mental illness.  He enjoys playing soccer, cooking with his wife, and being a dad.

Speaker 2:
Ewa Bieber, MD obtained her medical degree from Jagiellonian University Collegium Medicrum in Cracow, Poland.  She completed a general psychiatry residency and child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at Mayo Clinic and is currently a consultation-liaison fellow, gaining knowledge and experience working with medically ill children and their families.

Upon conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • describe etiology of Wernicke Encephalopathy (WE), including non-alcohol related risk factors.
  • recognize challenges in diagnosing WE and describe strategies to improve diagnostic sensitivity.
  • utilize appropriate treatment approaches for WE.

Upon conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • define Post Intensive Care Syndrome (PICS).
  • examine the role of memory in post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • recognize current interventions aimed to reduce PICS, specifically Psychological Support Based on Positive Suggestions (PSBPS).
