Elizabeth Kacel, Ph.D.
Dr. Kacel is a second-year postdoctoral fellow in clinical health psychology specializing in psycho-oncology and chronic pain. She has contributed to NIH-funded research for 10 years. Her doctoral dissertation was a single-arm clinical trial examining a novel yoga and psychotherapy intervention that she developed for improving management of cancer distress.
Learning Objectives
Upon conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Describe the relationship between translational science and practice psycho-oncology.
- Identify the diverse roles played by clinical health psychologists in multidisciplinary behavioral cancer research.
- Describe two evidence-based interventions for cancer and chronic pain populations.

Enhancing Professional Support and Fulfillment and Reducing Burnout in Trainees during the COVID-19 Pandemic Through Virtual Balint-Like Groups: A Pilot Study and Future Directions
Megan (Meggie) Chochol, M.D.
Dr. Chochol received her Bachelor of Arts and Science from Washington University in St. Louis with a major in Biology. She completed medical school at Georgetown University School of Medicine and general psychiatry residency at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC before entering child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at Mayo Clinic. Dr. Chochol is especially interested in medical education and wellbeing.
Learning Objectives
Upon conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Identify the impact of COVID-19 on burnout risk in trainees and the potential for Balint groups to mitigate the risk.
- Describe the impact of a virtual Balint-like group on sense of professional support, fulfillment, and burnout in trainees during the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Summarize future directions being pursued with the Endowment for Education Research Award.
