Psychostimulants and the Risk of New-Onset Psychosis in Geographically Defined Cohort of Youth with ADHD
Rana Elmaghraby, M.D.

Dr. Rana Elmaghraby is a second-year child and adolescent psychiatry fellow at Mayo Clinic-Rochester. Dr. Elmaghraby graduated medical school from Weill Cornell Medicine in Qatar and completed three years of general adult psychiatry training at University of Minnesota. Dr. Elmaghraby completed her term on the APA board of trustees as the Resident-Fellow Member Trustee (2018-2020). Dr. Elmaghraby has interest in advocacy, especially with topics related to access to mental health care and health equity. Her areas of interest also include first episode psychosis and providing culturally competent patient care.

Learning Objectives
Upon conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Recognize the risk on new-onset psychosis in pediatric patients taking psychostimulants for treatment of ADHD.
  • Identify risk factors for youth who are at heightened risk of developing psychosis with psychostimulant treatment.

Palliative Care:  Clinical Applications in Psychiatry

Jaclyn Lindsey, M.D.

Jaclyn Lindsey M.D. is a fourth year General Psychiatry Chief Resident. She received her Bachelor of Science from the University of Minnesota Duluth and completed medical school at the University of Central Florida. After graduation, she will be starting Geriatric Psychiatry Fellowship at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Lindsey’s clinical interests include medical education, community psychiatry, and end-of-life care.

Learning Objectives
Upon conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Describer the key principles and components of palliative and hospice care.
  • Identify patient and physician barriers to palliative care referrals.
  • Recognize when to refer to hospice and palliative medicine subspecialists.
