Biomarkers of Alcohol Addiction and Pharmacological Treatment
Ming-Fen Ho, Ph.D.

Ming-Fen Ho, Ph.D., is a research scientist in Molecular Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. She joined the staff of Mayo Clinic in 2013 and holds the academic rank of assistant professor of pharmacology, Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science.

Dr. Ho earned her B.Sc. in nursing at Chang Gung University of Science and Technology in Taiwan. She subsequently earned her M.S. and Ph.D. in molecular genetics at Griffith University, Gold Coast, Australia.

Dr. Ho’s current research deals with alcohol use disorder (AUD), opioid use disorder (OUD), and major depressive disorder (MDD), with a focus on studying the effects of genetic variation and transcription regulation on disease progression and response to therapeutic interventions using patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cells as a cell model system. She has given presentations on her research both nationally and internationally and has authored journal articles and abstracts.

In recognition of her work, Dr. Ho has received many awards and honors, including the Presidential Trainee Awards (in 2014, 2015, 2017 and 2018) and the Jason Marrow Top Trainee Award in 2018 from the American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (ASCPT) at their annual meetings. She also received the New Investigator Award from the American Society for Clinical Psychopharmacology (ASCP) in 2020.

In addition to her research activities, Dr. Ho holds teaching/examining privileges in Molecular Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics in Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.

Dr. Ho is a member of the American College of Rheumatology (ACR), the American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (ASCPT), The Society of Biological Psychiatry (SOBP), Research Society on Alcoholism (RSA), and the American Society for Clinical Psychopharmacology (ASCP).

Learning Objectives
