Session date:
05/25/2021 - 12:00pm to 1:00pm

Local conditions in communities, where people are born; live their lives; work to earn their livelihoods; take part in activities for pleasure; pursue their life goals informed by morality or faith; and grow old, tremendously affect longevity and quality of life (QOL). Collectively these factors are called social determinants of health (SDOH; www.health.gov). SDOH and Social Determinants of Mental Health can significantly affect the outcomes of several health conditions and life-expectancy. They are equally likely to influence transplant outcomes. We will review the evidence from a study of linked national databases as well the Mayo Clinic data to review how these factors are associated with increased risk of graft failure and mortality.
