SESSION DESCRIPTION
Dr. Pujalte and Dr. Endicott will discuss injuries sustained in various martial arts, as well as rehabilitation considerations, based on their knowledge and experience gathered through covering martial arts events and competitors from the youth level to elite and Olympic-level athletes. Dr. Pujalte’s research and clinical areas of interest include martial arts sports medicine and sports psychology. He has a personal interest in martial arts and sports psychology and, prior to the pandemic, served as team physician and medical advisor for USA Taekwondo. He was also named by World Taekwondo as one of its commissioned physicians and has served as team physician for the Five Stones Fight Club as they competed at the state level in Pennsylvania. He maintained a ringside physician license until he moved to Florida. Previously, Dr. Pujalte traveled as team physician for USA Taekwondo and as a commissioned doctor for World Taekwondo in events around the globe, and presented at the World Scientific Congress on Martial Arts and Combat Sports. Similarly, Dr. Endicott traveled with the medical staff for USA Ultimate and USA Taekwondo. She has traveled with elite and Olympic-level teams to international tournaments around the world and has provided medical care to world-class athletes in the US, Mexico, Russia, China, Japan, Korea, Bulgaria, and England. Dr. Pujalte and Dr. Endicott will review some of the injuries they have seen and discuss the more unique attributes of the treatment and rehabilitation of such injuries, with the goal of having martial arts athletes return to the sport they love.
