The employment of Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (NPs) and Physician Assistants (PAs) is expected to increase within surgical practices to meet growing workforce demands. To improve outcomes, surgical professionals must stay informed about the latest advances in treatment and management while understanding and implementing best practice models to optimize team-based care. This course is specifically tailored to meet the educational needs of surgery healthcare professionals in both private practice and academic settings.
Target Audience
This course is designed for nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, physicians, pharmacists, residents, fellows, and allied health professionals.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Formulate appropriate treatment plans for common post-operative complications
- Summarize best practices for pre-operative optimization of the acute surgical patient
- Recognize postoperative complications that contribute to significant morbidity as well as mortality in the surgical patient
- Summarize updates to evidence-based perioperative recommendations
- Describe specific considerations for the surgical patient with cardiovascular disease, along with the management of perioperative anticoagulation
- Develop strategies to enhance collaboration within multidisciplinary teams
- Identify strategies for addressing complex pain management cases
