The Mayo Clinic Cardiology Update course features a wide spectrum of timely updates in electrophysiology, sports medicine and fitness, valvular heart disease, coronary artery disease, outpatient cardiology, and cardiomyopathies and aortopathies. Faculty engage learners through interactive didactic sessions and case discussions. Topics include congestive heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, coronary artery disease, cardiac arrhythmias, congenital heart disease, anticoagulation, preventive cardiology, cardio-genomics, sports cardiology and valvular heart disease, among others.

Target Audience

The intended audience includes practicing cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons, cardiovascular and internal medicine trainees, emergency medicine physicians, internal medicine physicians, family medicine specialists and trainees, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, and any staff with a cardiovascular interest.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Identify key updates in the management of atrial fibrillation from the 2023 ACC AHA ACCP HRS guidelines.
  • Define the role of conduction system pacing in clinical practice.
  • Compare currently available therapies for chronic refractory angina.
  • Propose an approach to incorporate currently available weight loss therapies into comprehensive cardiovascular care.
  • Assess mitral valve structural interventions currently used in clinical practice.
  • Illustrate a guideline-based approach to the management of aortopathies.
  • Formulate an approach to diagnosing various forms of cardiac amyloid.
  • Demonstrate current guideline-based practice for the diagnosis of pulmonary hypertension.
  • Demonstrate an approach to the use of effective non-statin therapies for lipid lowering in challenging cases of hypercholesterolemia.
