The interaction between cancer and the immune system is complex and varies from patient to patient. This implies that cancer immunotherapy needs to be personalized to provide the immune system with the tools and targets by which to recognize and eradicate each individual tumor. Therefore, future immunotherapies will need to be personalized in terms of identifying both patient-specific immunosuppressive mechanisms and target neoantigens.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon conclusion of this activity, learners should be able to:

  • Recognize cancer immune evasion
  • Review immunotherapeutic options for advanced cancers
  • Examine novel personalization approaches
