PRESENTATION TITLE
Microfluidic Label Free Sorting Technologies for Applications in Medicine: from Isolation of Extracellular Vesicles in Biological Fluids to Microrobots

PRESENTER(S)
Utkan Demirci, PhD

PRESENTER BIO
Utkan Demirci, PhD, is a professor with tenure at Stanford University School of Medicine at the Canary Center at Stanford for Cancer Early Detection. Before moving to Stanford, he was an associate professor of Medicine and Health Sciences and Technology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School (HMS) and Harvard- Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Health Sciences and Technology. His group is focused on the development of point-of-care technologies and creating microfluidic platforms for sorting rare cells and exosomes for infectious diseases and cancer. His early work founded the basics of 3-D bioprinting of cells and biomaterials.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
After the presentation, attendees will be able to:
  • Explain practical applications of genomics and pharmacogenomics for individualizing patient care.
  • Define strategies to overcome obstacles to implementing genomic sequencing for patient care.
  • Describe new and emerging technologies that promote individualized care for patients.
  • Discuss ethical, legal, and social issues arising from the translation of individualized medicine into the clinical practice and the promotion of molecular, cellular, and genomic medicine research.
