Mayo Clinic’s 8th Annual SKIN: Practical Dermatology for the Generalists 2024, fills your CME needs. The course is taught by expert dermatologists from the three Mayo Clinic national practices in Minnesota, Florida and Arizona. The course emphasizes general dermatology skills for the primary care physician and non-dermatologists in an interactive, case-based format with evidence-based lectures led by Mayo Clinic experts in dermatology. Topics discussed include management of moles, skin infections, cancers, rashes, lumps and bumps, and simple dermatologic procedures.

Target Audience

The information presented will be relevant to a broad range of non-dermatologists and primary care providers, including general practitioners, internists, physicians, residents, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, APRNs and registered nurses.

Learning Objectives

Describe the various potencies of topical steroids and recognize which diseases and which body areas can be treated with the varying steroid classes.

  • Recognize and differentiate common skin rashes between those rashes that may have serious associated systemic implications, and those that can be safely treated by primary care.
  • Differentiate common skin growths from lesions which are concerning for skin cancer.
  • Recognize when consultation is needed for more serious conditions.
  • Identify skin cancers which require surgical intervention, and the value of consultation for more complex Mohs surgery.
