Diabetes Intensive Training is a self-paced, web-based course using BlackBoard learning management system. The course is offered every quarter with start dates in January, April, July and October. Each module on average takes 2.5 to 3 hours to complete and there are 12 modules for a total of 32 hours of continuing medical education credits. The modules include pathophysiology, non insulin therapy, insulin therapy, technology, co-morbidities associated with diabetes, hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia. Integrated within the modules are tips on education, referrals and billing.

Target Audience

This course is designed for primary care providers – Family Medicine and General Internal Medicine MDs, Pharmacists, Dietitians, NPs, RNs and APRNs.

  • Integrate knowledge using principles of theory and research of nursing and medicine integrated into a comprehensive health care plan for patients with diabetes including prevention, promotion and treatment.
  • Describe evidence based guidelines and clinical guidelines in treatment of diabetes management through online case study scenarios.
  • Identify medical education resources pertaining to current topics in diabetes management (prevention, promotion and treatment).
