As the keynote for the LGBTI+ in STEM 2022 Conference, Dr. Cesar A. Gonzalez, assistant professor of clinical psychology, will speak on his experience as the clinical director of the Transgender and Intersex Specialty Care Clinic at Mayo Clinic—Rochester. This keynote will address how to improve the experience of transgender patients, students, and staff through research, education, and advocacy.

Target Audience

This conference is open to all allied health professionals including physicians, residents, fellows, nurses, physician assistants, social workers, students and anyone with an interest in this topic.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the difference between gender and sexuality, provide alternatives to heteronormative language, and facilitate the proper use of gender pronouns among healthcare providers.
  • Explain practical approaches to enhance engagement and emotional intelligence and thereby decrease stress and anxiety, increase resilience, enhance performance, and improve relationships, particularly with LGBTQ+ patients and colleagues.
