Extracorporeal life support (ECLS) is increasingly being used for refractory cardiopulmonary failure and its use in the adult population is gaining attention in clinical practice. The paucity of randomized clinical trials and guidelines has led to significant practice variation when trying to address the challenge of minimizing risk and maximizing benefit. This course provides the necessary framework for management of a patient requiring ECLS through the use of practical case-based scenarios, high-fidelity hands-on simulations, and discussion of current hot topics.

Abstracts - DEADLINE EXTENDED TO NOVEMBER 4, 2022
As we enter our fifth year of offering the Current Concepts in ECLS course in Jacksonville, FL, we are excited to announce that the course will be offering a venue to present abstracts from all medical trainees. Abstracts with a main theme of temporary mechanical circulatory support will be the focus. These can be medically challenging cases, case series, or scientific studies. Abstracts will be reviewed by our course directors and decisions regarding acceptance will be made on a rolling basis. The submission deadline for abstracts is now November 4, 2022.
Trainees with accepted abstracts will receive a discounted course fee ($800) that will also include the pre-course TEE workshop. All abstracts will require presentation at the Wednesday evening e-poster session (November 30) following the TEE pre-course workshop. At least one of the authors must register and attend the conference.

Target Audience
ECMO specialists, respiratory therapists, nurses, perfusionists and physicians specializing in critical care medicine, pulmonary medicine, emergency medicine, cardiothoracic surgery, and cardiology. Also, those interested in a foundational education in caring for the ECMO patient may benefit from this course.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Identify the various form of ECMO support and their role in clinical practice
- Explain the appropriate cannulation strategy responsible for optimal success
- Describe anticoagulation, transfusion, and fluid management during ECMO
- Summarize strategies for pharmacotherapy during ECMO
- Recognize and describe the strategies such as echocardiography in hemodynamic assessment of ECMO patients
- Acknowledge and explore the ethical challenges of palliative support

The J. Wayne and Delores Barr Weaver Simulation Center at Mayo Clinic's Florida campus is located in the Stabile North Building on the 8th Floor. Parking is available in multiple lots near the Stabile North Building on W.M. Davis Parkway at no charge. Additional parking is available in the Mayo patient/visitor ramp adjacent to the Davis Building on Mayo Boulevard at $3 per day and no charge on Saturday. The cost for parking is not included in the registration fee.

The American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion allotted 28.80 Category I CEUs to perfusionists who attend the meeting. CEU credits for perfusionists are awarded on the following days:
Wednesday, November 30, 2022: 6.00 CEUs

Friday, December 2, 2022: 7.80 CEUs
Saturday, December 3, 2022: 7.20 CEUs
Participants must sign in once a day to verify attendance. A photo ID is required for participants to obtain registration materials. A certificate specifying the total number of CEU credit hours earned by that individual will be emailed to the attendee two weeks post activity.
