This workshop is designed for unit-level nurse supervisors and managers. Topics will include developing a leadership style, building and managing a team, QI/EBP/research, workload measurement, using data for decision making, finance management, communication, adapting to emerging technologies, and more.

Target Audience
This workshop is designed for unit-level nurse supervisors and managers.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Outline how to build, communicate with, and manage a high functioning nursing team.
- Describe how to incorporate QI, research, and EBP at the clinical unit level.
- Identify ways to promote professional development for you and your staff.
- List methods for predicting staffing and workload, future nursing trends, and emerging technologies.

![]() Kelly Fjerstad, MSN, MBA/HCM, RN, NE-BC | Kelly Fjerstad is an accomplished nursing leader with over two decades of experience at Mayo Clinic. Holding advanced degrees in nursing and healthcare management, Kelly has served in progressive leadership roles since 2004, including oversight of pediatric and neonatal care teams. Kelly is an Instructor of Nursing, a Gold Level Mayo Clinic Quality Fellow, and board-certified as a Nurse Executive (NE-BC). Kelly is dedicated to advancing nursing practice, quality improvement, and collaborative leadership across the organization. |
![]() Tera L. Gross, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, CENP, FACHE | Tera L. Gross, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, CENP FACHE is the Chief Nursing Officer for Mayo Clinic in Florida. She has served in leadership roles at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota and Jacksonville, Florida for over 20 years. She is also an Adjunct Faculty Member at Florida State University. Tera obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master of Science in Nursing with a focus in Nursing Administration from South Dakota State University and a Doctorate of Nursing Practice from the University of Minnesota. Tera is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and Assistant Professor of Nursing in the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine, and a recipient of the Diamond Quality Fellow Award from the Mayo Quality Fellows Program. She is personally committed to lead and empower healthcare professionals with the skills and opportunities needed to thrive and achieve success. As such, Tera is the Region 4 Director on the American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL) Board of Directors, the immediate Past-President of the Northeast chapter for the Florida Organization for Nursing Leadership (FONL) and a member of the FONL Board encouraging and supporting Florida Nursing Leaders to influence healthcare and professional nursing practice. |
![]() Cheristi Cognetta-Rieke DNP, MBA, RN | Cheristi Cognetta-Rieke, D.N.P., M.B.A., R.N. is an Assistant Professor of Nursing at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science and serves as the vice chair nursing for Mayo Clinic leading the enterprise Department of Nursing transformation work. She is the creator of MyStory© a tool to capture each hospitalized patient’s story to personalize their care. In her current role, Cheristi and the enterprise practice transformation team are leveraging generative AI to build transformative tools for nurses, by nurses™ such as a new Nurse Virtual Assistant tool, ambient nursing documentation tool, a curated digital platform for Mayo Clinic nurses and more. |

Bungum, MAN, RN, is a Mayo Enterprise Practice Transformation Nurse Administrator with Mayo Clinic, where she leads transformation and innovation efforts for nurses across Mayo Clinic. Lisa is actively involved in transformative change management and develops tools in partnership with nurses to enhance efficiency while maintaining safe, quality care. Areas of focus include virtual nurse support for inpatient nurses, remote patient monitoring programs, patient engagement tools, and implementation of artificial intelligence products created by nurses for nurses. |
