Course Directors: Gregory J. Schears, M.D., Pramod K. Guru, M.B.B.S. and Robert A. Ratzlaff, D.O.
The extra corporeal life support system as rescue therapy for refractory cardiopulmonary failure is increasingly gaining attention in clinical practices. The challenge of this system is how to best utilize it to get the maximum benefits. In the absence of randomized clinical trials and guidelines practice varies widely. Mayo Clinic's course is aimed at practical case based management for the current commonly used indications for life support. Also, it is aimed for refinement of practices for future uniform growth of the system at a national and international level.
