This specific combination of workshops entails a sequence of up-to-date educational tools used to acquire skills the anesthesiology practice demands. This course will take place in one of the most modern simulation centers in the United States. Simulation will be incorporated into each workshop. The methodology will include pre-test, followed by didactic presentations with case-based scenarios and a post-test assessment. The most important clinical management questions will be addressed in highly interactive sessions.

Target Audience

This course is intended for practicing anesthesiologists, critical care specialists, emergency medicine practitioners, hospitalists, certified registered nurse anesthetists, anesthesiology residents and fellows.

Learning Objectives

Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  • Demonstrate the ultrasound anatomy of the normal and abnormal heart with transthoracic echocardiography
  • Discuss the FUSA (Focused Ultrasound in Surgical Anesthesia) algorithm for hypotensive and hypoxemic patients
  • Practice flexible videobronchosopy of the proximal bronchial tree and perform insertion of various devices for lung isolation
  • Apply the main methods of lung isolation for one-lung ventilation in a lung anatomy model
  • Perform a focused airway examination of the neck with ultrasonography
  • Perform the technique for cannulation of internal jugular vein in a vascular anatomy model
  • Demonstrate the feasibility and usefulness of gastric ultrasound in preanesthetic aspiration risk assessment
  • Integrate acquired knowledge, skills, and clinical management in real clinical situations replicated by high-fidelity simulation
  • Apply ultrasonography as a point-of-care approach to enhance diagnostic accuracy in shock and respiratory failure scenarios
