This Mayo Clinic and Kaiser Permanente collaboration offers a comprehensive family medicine update course designed for practicing primary care and family medicine physicians. This course highlights the latest recommendations involving medical specialties important to the primary care setting that can be applied immediately into practice. The use of lectures, panel and roundtable discussion offers attendees opportunities to interact with faculty.

Target Audience

This course is designed for family physicians, general internists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and nurses in primary care and family practice.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Describe interventions to improve quality of life for caregivers of dementia patients
  • Describe the interventions that are most likely to prevent cerebral vascular disease
  • Formulate new treatment options for the management of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus
  • Review evaluation and management of patients with chronic kidney disease
  • Identify specific injuries with certain popular wilderness sports
  • Review outpatient procedures including musculoskeletal Injections
  • Examine key elements of history and physical exam when evaluating an athlete with a possible overuse injury
