Title:Bacterial infections in patients with acute variceal bleeding in the era of antibiotic prophylaxis

Learning Objectives:

  • Review the prevalence of bacterial infections in patients with cirrhosis and acute variceal bleeding despite antibiotic prophylaxis.
  • Review the most common infections early after admission with GI bleeding in cirrhotic patients. 
  • Discuss the risk factors to develop these infections.
