Mayo Clinic's 8th Annual Mayo Clinic Hematology/Oncology Case-Based Approaches to Patient Care for NPs, PAs, and Nurses 2024 will focus on the needs of advanced practice providers, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and nurses regarding the care of patients with hematologic and oncologic malignancies. This case-based approach symposium will highlight the day-to-day challenges in the care and management of patients, specifically addressing the needs of these clinical practitioners. This course will highlight the complications and challenges that arise in caring for patients with various cancers.

 

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION

 Overview: As part of the 8th Annual Mayo Clinic Hematology/Oncology Case-Based Approaches to Patient Care for NPs, PAs, and Nurses 2025 the Fellows Research Poster Presentation session for presentation of original research dedicated to the field of Hematology/Oncology and Internal Medicine will be held at the meeting on April 10-12, 2025. Submitted abstracts may include ongoing clinical trials in Hematology/Oncology and Internal Medicine, outcome studies, quality improvement or practice innovations, and interesting or challenging case reports. Posters will be peer-reviewed. At least one of the authors must attend the conference. Residents, Fellows, NPs, or PAs with an accepted poster will receive a partial scholarship to attend the course. Nurses with an accepted poster will receive a full scholarship to attend the course.

 Abstract Eligibility: For the Fellows Poster Presentations, all abstracts will be reviewed based on their merit by a peer-reviewed process.

Notification of Results: All primary authors will be notified Friday, March 28, 2025, if the Course Directors have any recommendations or feedback to consider during e-poster creation.

Target Audience

Physicians, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, Nurses, Residents/Fellows, and Pharmacists in the fields of Hematology/Oncology and Internal Medicine

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

• Identify the indications for immunotherapy, target therapy, chemotherapy and radiation therapy based on cancer type
• Identify updated knowledge of common strategies for diagnosis and treatment of hematologic and oncologic malignancies
• Review indications for bone marrow transplant and Chimeric antigen therapy (CAR T-cell therapy) treatment
• Integrate palliative and supportive care as essential tools in caring for cancer patients
• Recognize complications related to immunotherapy, target therapy, hemotherapy and radiation therapy to formulate a treatment plan for disease management
