This course, offered by Mayo Clinic in cooperation with TGen, Honor Health, and the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, welcomes expert faculty from across the country and throughout Mayo Clinic to bring you a state-of-the-art conference with the latest treatment options in Hepato-Biliary and Pancreatic cancer. The program is designed to provide a multi-disciplinary overview regarding molecular characteristics, the importance of early diagnosis, treatment considerations, which includes surgery and new pharmacological agents, and how to incorporate these into clinical practice.

Topics include: Oncologic imaging and staging for the non-radiologist; molecular biology and translational research advances of pancreatic and hepato-biliary cancers, local therapy, surgery and liver transplantation for hepato-biliary cancers; adjuvant therapy and preoperative therapy of pancreatic and hepato-biliary cancers; targeted agents and treatment of molecular subsets for pancreatic and hepatobiliary cancers; first and second line therapy for advanced pancreatic and hepatobiliary cancers. Course format will include didactic lectures, panel discussions and use of interactive keypads.

Target Audience

This course is designed for surgeons, gastroenterologists, medical and radiation oncologists, pain specialists, laboratory scientists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, oncology pharmacists, oncology nurses and clinical research personnel. Specialties include: medical oncology, hematology, gastroenterology, radiation oncology, surgical oncology, pathology, radiology and laboratory research science.

 

 

 

Learning Objectives

Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  • Identify patients who will benefit from radiation therapy
  • Incorporate novel agents in clinical care and clinical trial participation
  • Explain palliative care management of the symptomatic patient
  • Describe molecular biology of pancreatic and hepato-biliary cancer
  • Describe the role of the PARP inhibitors and DNA damaging agents in the treatment of pancreatic cancer
  • Select the appropriate regimen for first and second line therapy in treating advanced pancreatic cancer and hepato-biliary cancer
  • Describe the differences in staging between borderline and unresectable locally advanced pancreatic/ hepato-biliary cancers
  • Identify patients with resecetable pancreatic cancer who are candidates for a minimally invasive procedure
