Radiation Oncology Education for the Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant 2018

The objective of the course is to increase our knowledge and to bring together our practice initiatives within the Mayo Clinic Rochester sites of Radiation Oncology. Information will be discussed with all of the advanced practice providers within the specialty regarding symptom management and care of the patient undergoing radiation treatments.  Describe appropriate standards of care for patients receiving radiation treatment.  Explain what medications to use with patients undergoing radiation treatment. Education will be provided on Radiobiology, Radiology, Pharmacology, and Radiation to enhance our knowledge within the specialty of Radiation Oncology.

Learning Objectives

Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  • Describe appropriate standards of care for patients receiving radiation treatment.
  • Explain what medications to use with patients undergoing radiation treatment.
  • Recognize the importance of follow up care after treatment has been completed.
  • Increase ability to interpret various radiographic images.
