In this interactive case-based session, Drs. Patel and Yao present a primer on molecular microbiology diagnostics for clinicians, overviewing the technology behind nucleic acid amplification tests and sequencing-based diagnostics (conventional Sanger and next-generation sequencing).  In addition to explaining how these diagnostics work, Drs. Patel and Yao summarize regulatory considerations and describe how these diagnostics are applied in clinical practice.

Target Audience

This course is relevant for infectious diseases specialists, infectious diseases trainees, internists, pharmacists, hospitalists, and clinical infectious diseases researchers.  The content will also benefit physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, family physicians and clinical microbiologists with interest in managing patients with infections.
