Mayo Clinic 5th Annual Update on Infectious Diseases for Primary Care 2020 - General Session

The field of infectious diseases is constantly changing posing challenges for front-line healthcare providers in the clinic and hospital settings. Emerging infections, multiply resistant pathogens, new diagnostics, guidelines, regulations, and antimicrobials require continuous learning. This course will provide up to date, concise and evidence based presentations to keep you on top of the infectious challenges you face daily in practice. The course will feature lectures, case presentations and interactive discussions to enhance providers’ knowledge to diagnose treat and prevent the infections they will commonly see in practice.
Updates on travel medicine, viral hepatitis and HIV, mycobacterial infections, use of microbiota therapeutics, complicated head and neck infections, C. difficile, Helicobacter pylori, fungal and parasitic infections, multi-resistant organisms and using social media to help manage infectious diseases. Learning Objectives
Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:
- Implement new strategies for treatment of common infections in an era of resistance
- Recognize how to prevent emerging causes of viral hepatitis
- Translate new information on the prevention and treatment of infections in adult and pediatric travelers
- Counsel patients on infection risks when receiving biologic therapies for immune diseases
