The hands on small group communication workshop is designed to teach participants practical communication skills necessary to navigate high stakes medical conversations such as breaking bad news, delivering prognosis, discussing code status and having a goal of care conversations. The small group nature of this workshop will allow participants to practice their skills in a safe, non-judgmental and rewarding environment. Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be better equipped to navigate complex healthcare decision making with their patients.

Target Audience

The course is targeted primarily towards clinicians who work with patients with serious and life-threatening illnesses. This includes specialists without any formal training in communications skills, advance symptom management or other palliative care skills training. Targeted clinician specialties (MD, NP, PA-C) include clinicians from general internal medicine, family medicine, hospital medicine, oncology, critical care, geriatrics, nephrology and cardiology. Clinicians with formal palliative medicine training and the need to update their skills with formal CME offerings will benefit by attending this course.
