This session will explore the oft-overlooked intersection between tuberculosis (TB) and mental health. Tuberculosis poses not only physical health challenges but also significantly impacts mental well-being. This webinar will examine the TB-mental health relationship through a historical lens and shed light on psychological, emotional, social, and psychopharmacological aspects of TB care and management.
Target Audience
This course is designed for allied health professionals, nurses, nurse practitioners, physicians, physician assistants, resident/fellows, and healthcare professionals working in a public healthcare setting.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Describe some historical parallels connecting tuberculosis and mental illness treatment.
- Recognize psychological/psychiatric challenges faced by individuals diagnosed with TB.
- Explain ways that mental health influences TB treatment adherence.
- Identify strategies for integrating mental health support into TB care and management.
